How Love Transformed My Life

This is my invitation for you to surrender and embrace the overflowing love of God, so you can experience true freedom and impact those around you.

So… years ago (well, not that many years ago), I wasn’t the person I am today. For those who know me now, it might come as a surprise, but there was a time when I wasn’t so kind or loving. Even those who knew me back then might struggle to recall the woman I used to be because of the profound transformation God’s love has worked in my life. Let me tell you a story of how love can change you—and your world—IF you allow it.

I was saved, active in church, and outwardly devoted to serving God. I smiled when it was expected, but I wasn’t someone who radiated God’s love. It wasn’t that I wasn’t trying—I gave it all I had. But I was a perfectionist, judgmental, envious, and arrogant. I lived for the approval of others, hiding behind a façade of strength and success while being trapped in deep emotional and spiritual bondage.

I even had a catchphrase: “God loves Him some me!” And while I said it often, I realize now that I didn’t truly believe it. Intellectually, I knew God loved me, but my heart had never fully received it.

Am I the only one who has walked this road? Maybe you’ve been there too—trying to be “good enough” while feeling like you’re falling short. Maybe you’ve been so focused on your own goals or struggles that you couldn’t truly see others or love them as God calls us to.

The Turning Point

What changed? Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” I thank God for the truth in that verse. I repeated “God loves Him some me” for years, and finally, God used those words to break through my resistance.

One day, in my brokenness, I was ready to surrender. That’s when God began whispering to me, over and over, “I love you.” It was His response to everything I brought to Him. Every question, every worry, every request was met with, “I love you.”

At first, it was sweet and then after a while, it frustrated me. One day, I shouted, “I KNOW YOU DO! Why do you keep saying it?” And in His gentle way, He replied, “I’ll keep saying it until you believe it.”

In that moment, He opened my eyes to see all the ways He had already shown His love for me. I wept as His love covered every hurt, healed every wound, and filled every empty place in my heart. For the first time, I truly received His love.

The Transformation

When I embraced God’s love, 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 came alive in my heart:
Love is patient and kind; it does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude… Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.

As I surrendered to His love, everything began to change. I didn’t have to work to love others anymore. His love overflowed in me, and it became natural to love people the way He loves me. I became patient and compassionate instead of judgmental. Forgiveness became easier, and gratitude replaced arrogance.

Even the people around me began to change or maybe it was my perception of them changed. Either way, I was different and they were different. They didn’t know why, but they were impacted by the love that overflowed from my life.

Love Never Fails

God’s love never fails. It never fails to change, heal, or deliver. It never fails to lift you, protect you, and create something beautiful within you. Everything and everyone else may fail at some point, but God’s love never will.

If you’ve been living in judgment, perfectionism, or striving for approval, I want you to know that there’s another way. You don’t have to be broken to experience it—you just need to surrender. Isaiah 64:8 reminds us that God is the potter, and we are the clay. He wants to shape you into the person He created you to be, but first, you must let Him.

Have You Received His Love?

Receiving God’s love isn’t about earning it or being “good enough.” It’s about opening your heart and allowing Him to fill you with His unconditional, unchanging love. When you do, it will transform your life and the lives of those around you.
